Dr Andy Wearn

Dr Wearn works as a reliever at the practice; first starting in September 2006. After qualifying in Medicine from Birmingham University (UK) in 1990, he chose general practice as his initial career path. Whilst undergoing vocational training he took on a half-time academic post at Birmingham University ’s Department of General Practice. From 1995 he split his time equally between working in general practice and at the university. He practiced in an inner city group practice with high local deprivation and a broad representation of ethnic groups. As an academic GP he was involved in teaching and research, including 5 years as the Sir Seigmund Warburg Lecturer in Communication Studies.

He moved to NZ in 2001 to take up a Senior Lecturer position with the University of Auckland , setting up and running a clinical skills resource and delivering skills teaching across three health professional programmes.

He holds membership of the UK college of GPs (1995) and gained a Masters in Medical Science in 1998.

He is married with two children, enjoys coastal life in NZ, paints when he can and hopes to stand up on a surfboard one day.
