Appointments Consultations are by appointment only. While every effort is made to accommodate more urgent consultations there may be occasions when your doctor will be unable to see you on the day of your call..... Diagnostic Services We can now offer the collection of blood and other tests requested by your doctor at the surgery. If your doctor has requested a blood test at your consultation ask at reception if you would like to have the test performed at the surgery. In most circumstances our nurses will meet your request dependent on pressure of clinical work or arrange for a time to return for the collection of the specimen. |
Capitation In July 2003 in line with the Primary Health Care Strategy put forward by the NZ Ministry of Health Marsden Medical became capitated under a Public Health Organization (PHO). With the exception of certain gender specific conditions, male morbidity and mortality health statistics are higher than those of women. Despite this men still have remarkably lower attendance rates at their own doctor's surgeries than women. At Marsden Medical we offer a full and comprehensive preventative health check... Our practitioners and nurses run a recall service for routine preventative health checks but there are a number of reasons for a consultation to consider your own health risk profile and discuss this with your doctor.... |

Marsden Medical Practice
Marsden Medical Practice is a traditional general and family medical practice situated on the corner of Marsden Avenue and Mt Eden Road in Mt Eden Auckland. There is ample street parking both on Marsden Avenue and directly in front of the main entrance on Mt Eden Rd. We are New Zealand trained health professionals with three doctors and two registered nurses committed to traditional general practice. Marsden Medical Practice now comprises ten staff. We are all dedicated to the traditional values of comprehensive personal medical care and will strive to meet your medical need whenever and wherever that need arises.
History
The first practitioner began practicing from the house on the corner of Marsden Avenue and Mt Eden Rd shortly after the end of World War two. During the 1950s Dr Clifford James returning from Missionary Medical services in the Solomon Islands set up practice in the house at 785 Mt Eden Rd and subsequently in the cottage behind the house in Marsden Avenue. In the 1960s the surgery was run by Dr Doug Colonna and subsequently Dr Philip Galloway. Dr Lello purchased the practice in 1994 when Dr Galloway retired from General Practice to pursue psychiatric training. General Practice in New Zealand has undergone some major changes in the last decade. With increasing costs and decreasing health subsidy in primary care there has been a tendency for practitioners to form larger practices for the economies of scale. There has been a greater use of independent nursing within Family practice teams and, like in all professions, a greater reliance on information technology.
Registration with your family doctor.
Members of your family may not have had any reason to visit the surgery and it may well be that the surgery doesn't’t have basic information. Increasingly, access to publically funded health services is dependent on registration with a General Practitioner. It is becoming more important to register with your local GP, a concept that is common in the UK and some other countries. Read more....
